German Political Scientist
A prominent German political scientist, he was a leading figure in the "New Left" movement in West Germany during the 1960s. As a member of the Socialist German Student Union and the Central Committee of the Campaign for Democracy and Disarmament, he founded the Socialist Center in 1967.
Academic and Research
His research focused on the history and politics of the German and international labor movement, political sociology, the trade union movement, and international political economy. He studied at Frankfurt and Marburg Universities, and in 1968, he earned his doctorate on Louis Auguste Blanqui.
Academic Career
From 1968 to 1971, he was an assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology at Marburg University. In 1972, he became a professor of political science at the university. He retired as an emeritus professor in 2006.
Activism and Affiliations
From 1983 to 1989, he served on the Scientific Council of the Institute for Marxist Research and Studies. He is a member of the advisory board of the alter-globalization organization ATTAC and the board of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. Currently, he is a member of the Left Party of Germany.
