Early Life and Education

Efim Yuris, a distinguished accordionist, was born on January 13, 1947, in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ukraine. He pursued his musical education at the Khmelnytskyi Musical College and the Gorky Conservatory. Under the tutelage of renowned professor Nikolai Y. Chaikin, Yuris graduated from Gorky Conservatory in 1972.

Career in Russia

Upon completing his studies, Yuris moved to Krasnoyarsk. He became a teacher of accordion at the pedagogical college имени A.M. Gorky. Concurrently, he performed as a soloist-instrumentalist with the regional philharmonic orchestra.

Emigration to Germany

In 1992, Yuris and his family relocated to Hamburg, Germany. He established the Efim Jourist Quartet, comprising accordion, violin, guitar, and double bass. The quartet performed extensively at international festivals, including the Kissinger Sommer, Rheingau Musikfestival, and Kuhmo Festival.

Musical Achievements

Yuris founded the Efim Jourist Sextet and released three compact discs. He was acclaimed for his exceptional accordion skills, showcased in his solo concerts and performances with renowned orchestras. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Yuris is remembered for his innovative teaching methods, inspiring countless young musicians.

Passing and Legacy

Tragically, Efim Yuris succumbed to cancer on his 60th birthday, January 13, 2007, in Hamburg, Germany. His legacy lives on through the Efim Jourist Quartet and the many students he mentored. Efim Yuris will forever be remembered as a brilliant accordionist who enriched the musical landscape of both Russia and Germany.
