Biography of Yegor Meshcheryakov
Early Life and Basketball CareerYegor Meshcheryakov is a Belarusian basketball player who played as a power forward. He was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus. Meshcheryakov started his basketball journey at the SDYUSHOR No. 10 in Minsk, with his first coach being Vadim Nikolaevich Aleksin. In the 2010/2011 season, Meshcheryakov decided to temporarily pause his playing career to focus on completing his education.
International Success
Meshcheryakov achieved notable success as a member of the Belarusian national basketball team. He represented Belarus from 1995 to 2012, with intermittent breaks, and even served as the team's captain. In 1994, he won a gold medal at the European Championship under-22 as part of the Belarusian youth team. Meshcheryakov was recognized as the best basketball player in Belarus by the newspaper "Pressbol" in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2008, and 2009.
Hall of Fame Induction and Coaching Career
On February 3, 2018, Yegor Meshcheryakov was inducted into the Hall of Fame of George Washington University. Following his playing career, Meshcheryakov ventured into coaching. In 2009, he co-founded a youth basketball club named after himself. In December 2014, Meshcheryakov was appointed as the Sports Director of "Tsmoki-Minsk," a professional basketball club. From 2016, he also worked as the Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Basketball Federation and as an assistant coach for the Belarusian national team. In September 2018, Meshcheryakov became an assistant coach for the club "Tsmoki-Minsk." However, in January 2019, he and the head coach, Alexander Krutikov, were dismissed from the team due to unsatisfactory results.
Achievements
Throughout his career, Yegor Meshcheryakov achieved several notable accomplishments, including winning the European Championship with the Belarusian youth team in 1994. He also won the Ukrainian Championship in 2007/08 and the Belarusian Championship in 1993/94 and 1994/95. Additionally, Meshcheryakov was a silver medalist in the Russian Championship in 2006/07 and the Belarusian Championship in 1992/93.
