Early Life and Career

Rustam Yusifovwas born in 1905 in Shaki, Azerbaijan, to a peasant family. Despite his impoverished upbringing, he possessed a deep passion for literature. After working as a farmhand, he attended the Baku Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1932.

Literary Debut and Achievements

With his graduation, Yusifov embarked on his literary career. In 1932, his first works were published. He gained prominence as a poet, playwright, and translator. His poems, including "Parakhod pod krasnym flagom" (1953) and "Slovo o pravde" (1953), were widely acclaimed. In 1954, he was honored with the title of Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Notable Works

Yusifov's most significant work was the novel "Zangezur". Published in two volumes (1956-1957), it depicted the struggles of the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples during the Russian Revolution. The novel was translated into Russian in 1959 and gained international recognition.

Children's Literature and Translations

In addition to his acclaimed adult works, Yusifov also wrote children's poems and plays. He is credited with translating the works of renowned poets such as Samuil Marshak and Julian Tuwim into Azerbaijani.

Death and Legacy

Rustam Yusifov passed away on December 18, 1957, in Baku. His literary contributions left an enduring legacy in Azerbaijani literature. He is remembered as a talented poet, novelist, and playwright who portrayed the complexities and aspirations of his time.
