Early Life and Naval Service

Born into a family of fishermen, he joined the Imperial Russian Navy during World War I and served as an engine mechanic on the battleship "Sevastopol."

Embrace of Bolshevism

In 1917, he joined the Bolshevik Party and became a prominent organizer within the Baltic Fleet. He served as a member of the Petrograd Soviet's Naval Section and the Central Baltic Fleet Committee.

The October Revolution

As a leader of the Bolshevik faction on the "Sevastopol," he played a key role in the October Revolution. He commanded a contingent of sailors during the storming of the Winter Palace and was appointed to the Military-Revolutionary Committee.

Lenin's Assignment

Under Vladimir Lenin's orders, he led a detachment of Baltic Fleet sailors to Moscow. He subsequently became the commissar of the naval detachment that fought in combat operations near Belgorod, Kharkov, and Chuguev.

The Caucasian Front

In 1918, he became a member of the Military-Revolutionary Committee and the chief of communications for the Caucasian Red Army. During the Baku Commune, he was arrested and executed as one of the 26 Baku Commissars.
