Biography of Ekaterina Brondukova

Wife of Borislav Brondukov

Ekaterina Brondukova, also known as Katya, is the beloved wife of Borislav Brondukov, a well-known and talented actor. Borislav is remembered for his roles in films such as "Afonya," "The Green Van," "We're from Jazz," "Mrs. Nikanorova's Expectation," and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson." Throughout his career, Borislav appeared in nearly 100 films. Unfortunately, due to a series of strokes, he is no longer able to speak or move easily.

Katya has been by Borislav's side for 33 years, acting as his voice, brain, and physical support. They reside in Bykovna, near Kiev, where Katya welcomed me into their home. Despite the challenges they face, they manage to make ends meet. They rent out a 4-bedroom apartment in the center of Kiev, which provides them with the necessary financial means for their daily expenses and Borislav's expensive medications.

For a long time, they struggled to find tenants for their apartment, as people would visit but leave without renting it. However, they now benefit from their "sotki" (a small plot of land) where they grow vegetables, berries, and various greens, some of which they even share with their neighbors. Their sons also help with house renovations, and Borislav receives a pension of 241 hryvnia (approximately $45), including an additional 93 hryvnia (approximately $18) for his special contributions.

The Early Years

Katya and Borislav got married in 1969, and she moved from her hometown of Bykovna to live with him in a communal apartment in Kiev. They shared a single room with Borislav's mother for nearly two years before they were offered a flat on Buchma Street, which was previously declined by another person. They lived there for 15 years, but their living situation was complicated by issues with Borislav's mother, who harbored an intense dislike towards Katya.

Katya was always seen as the villain in her mother-in-law's eyes, despite the fact that she carried the household burdens and only provided her with meals. Even the meals Katya prepared were deemed tasteless and inadequate. Furthermore, they all slept together in one room, as Borislav's mother insisted on having a separate room for herself. To cope with the situation, Katya would sing songs whenever Borislav's mother would start screaming. However, the most challenging aspect was when Borislav would return home from exhausting shoots and long for relaxation, only to be confronted by his mother's demands. He even attempted to stage his own hanging to make her reconsider her behavior, but it proved futile.

A Second Chance at Happiness

Despite the gossip and rumors surrounding their relationship, claiming Katya had disrupted another family and left Borislav's previous marriage with two children, she was, in fact, his second wife. Borislav's first marriage ended quickly due to his wife's preexisting mental illness, which surfaced shortly after their wedding. She had concealed her condition from him, and they were forced to separate based on medical records. Katya discovered the truth when Borislav showed her his ex-wife's letters, which were written in perfect rhymed verse but held no meaningful content.

When Borislav met Katya, he believed it was fate. She had just been accepted into the theater school, thanks in part to his assistance. However, rumors spread that Katya had disrupted another family, divorced Borislav's first wife, and left her two children orphaned. Despite these challenges, they managed to obtain a 4-bedroom apartment on Institutskaya Street, where they now reside. Initially, they had to share the space with Borislav's mother, and the apartment was in dire condition, with cement walls and no flooring or heating. They invested a significant amount of money into renovations, which left them financially drained. Fortunately, they had the support of their nanny to rely on during this difficult time.

A Life of Loyalty and Love

Borislav has always been a jealous man, and even after his third stroke, he would become jealous when other men would visit their home to help Katya with banking matters. This would lead to hypertensive crises for Borislav, prompting Katya to politely ask the man to no longer visit.

When asked if she ever desired to meet someone or have an affair during Borislav's illness, Katya replied with a resounding no. She stated that her husband was her first and only love, and she had never even entertained the thought of being unfaithful. After Borislav's second stroke, she realized that her priorities had shifted, and physical intimacy was no longer important compared to preserving his life. She explained that her instincts and desires had disappeared entirely.

Through the challenges they have faced, Katya has remained loyal to Borislav, supporting him both emotionally and physically. Her conscience is clear, knowing she has never betrayed him, not even in her thoughts. Their love and devotion have enabled them to overcome adversity and continue their journey together, cherishing every moment they have as a couple.
