Early Life and Education
Elena Ogorelysheva, a Belarusian public figure and sociologist, was born on December 25, 1987, in Minsk. She graduated from Belarusian State University with a degree in Information and Communication. Elena pursued further education at the European Humanities University in Gender Studies.
Professional Experience
Ogorelysheva's rich professional experience began with a position as a junior researcher at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. She later became a project manager at the Institute "New Eurasia." Her expertise extends beyond academia, as she also worked as a journalist and manager for "Alternative Youth Platform" from 2010 to 2014.
As an active member of the Belarusian Youth Public Association "New Faces," Elena earned a certificate as a forum theater trainer in 2014. She has utilized her training skills as a trainer in the first Belarusian-German Women's Festival in Baranovichi in 2017.
Research and Advocacy
Ogorelysheva has conducted extensive research on gender, body, and the fashion and style industries. Her work has focused on the representation of individuals with cancer, particularly women with breast cancer, in contemporary society. In 2017, she presented her paper on "Onco-body - (Non)Normative Body" at an interactive project titled "Prohibit the Impossible."
Elena is a committed advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She served as a manager for the queer film festival DOTYK in 2018 and coordinated the community center for LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. As a national consultant for UNICEF in Belarus in 2017-2018, she contributed to the organization's work.
Academic Leadership
From 2018 to 2020, Ogorelysheva led the Gender Concentration at the European College of Liberal Arts in Minsk. She taught courses in gender studies and developed educational programs such as "Agents of Change against Domestic Violence" for the Belarusian Young Women's Christian Association.
