Biography of Alisha Turner

Alisha Turner is a British model who has overcome bone cancer. Cancer remains one of the most terrifying diseases in the world, and victory over it often comes at a high price. Can one not only defeat cancer but also find their dream job after such a victory? Alisha Turner, a 20-year-old from Hastings, East Sussex, was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2013. At that time, doctors warned her that she might have to undergo amputation of her leg. Fortunately, in the end, the doctors were able to spare her from such a drastic measure and instead removed her femur, knee, and upper part of the tibia. Titanium prosthetics were then installed in place of the removed bones.

Overcoming the Diagnosis

Alisha encountered problems with her leg in June of the previous year, while vacationing in Egypt. One beautiful morning, she woke up with pain in her knee and numbness in her entire leg. Alisha attributed the symptoms to fatigue, as she had spent the previous night dancing at a club. However, after returning home, she decided to see a doctor. When the doctor sent her for an X-ray, the situation took a dark turn. It was her first encounter with the terrifying diagnosis of cancer. Alisha knew little about the disease, and none of her acquaintances had suffered from it. The doctors managed to calm her down by explaining the possibility of surgery. It was then that Alisha fully realized the advancements of modern medicine. She had already resigned herself to the fact that her leg could not be saved, so this sudden change in plans brought her relief.

Surgery and Rehabilitation

Alisha went under the surgeon's knife a day before her birthday, and she celebrated her new birthday as a cancer-free woman. The operation lasted for 6.5 hours and caused severe damage to her leg. It wasn't just a matter of replacing bones with prosthetics; Alisha also had two muscles removed near her thigh. From the outside, her leg looked like a chunk had been bitten off. Alisha couldn't immediately use her leg and had to go through a lengthy rehabilitation process. During her recovery, she faced another setback when the installed prosthesis began to deteriorate. Another operation was needed to fix it. Alisha still hasn't fully recovered, and she continues to use a wheelchair for long outings. However, she remains optimistic and believes that active training will help her get rid of the crutches and wheelchair.

Pursuing a Modeling Career

Interestingly, Alisha had never considered a career in modeling before. She always thought she was too short for the profession. Later, she learned about the "Models of Diversity" project, a company that focuses on models with unique characteristics or disabilities. Alisha read an article about the project while in the hospital and felt inspired enough after her surgery to take a risk and pursue her dream job. Her aunt also found the idea interesting, and Alisha contacted Angel Sinclair, the founder of the company. Alisha has already received her first assignment and will be one of the official representatives of the project's new advertising campaign. Needless to say, she can't wait to start working. Alisha believes that the opportunity to change people's perceptions about disabled individuals through her story is invaluable.
