Breslaur was born into a Jewish family in his hometown. After completing his studies at a gymnasium and seminary, he served as a cantor in his local congregation. However, in 1863, he left for Berlin to pursue his passion for music. He enrolled at the Stern Conservatory, where he studied under esteemed teachers such as Friedrich Kiel (composition), Hugo Schwartzer (organ), and Julius Stern (conducting).

Teaching Career and Publications

Upon graduating from the conservatory, Breslaur taught piano at the New Academy of Music from 1868 to 1879. Soon after leaving the academy, he founded the Berlin Association of Music Teachers, which later evolved into a nationwide organization.
