Enzo Košćet: Croatian Composer and Conductor
Early Life and EducationEnzo Košćet was born in Croatia and studied conducting at the Zagreb Academy of Music under Mladen Pozajić and Friedrich Zaun, graduating in 1947.
Professional Career
Košćet led several professional choirs in Croatia, including the Mixed Choir of Zagreb Radio. However, his primary focus was amateur choirs.
Founder and Director of the Košćet Choir
In 1945, Košćet established and directed the Mixed Choir of the Youth Club of Culture and Art named after Joža Vlahović. The choir was renamed the Košćet Choir in 1991, and he remained its conductor until his passing.
Leadership in the Croatian Music Community
From 1968 to 1970, Košćet served as chairman of the Union of Composers of Croatia.
Musical Compositions
Košćet composed primarily for choirs of various sizes. His most famous works include the suite "Ladarke" (1950), based on folk songs of the Midsummer's Day, and "The Ballad of Petrica Kerempuh" (1978) for soloists, choir, and orchestra, inspired by the work of Miroslav Krleža.
