Biography of Emilbek Abakirov
Emilbek Abakirov was a Soviet and Kyrgyz activist in the trade union movement, as well as a state and public figure. He was born in the village of Ak Kuduk in the Kochkor district of Kyrgyzstan. After completing school, Abakirov worked as a worker in the "Shamsi" collective farm, the "Kegety" collective farm, and as an accountant at the Karatyubinskoye rural consumer society in the Chui district. He studied at the Frunze Cooperative Technical College, and later at the History Faculty of the Kyrgyz State University, graduating with honors in 1953.
Abakirov then worked as a teacher and secretary of the Komsomol Committee at the Osh Pedagogical Institute. He was later elected as the secretary for propaganda and agitation of the Osh Regional Committee of the Komsomol. In 1960, Abakirov began working in the regional committee of the Communist Party. In the spring of 1970, he was elected as the First Secretary of the Osh City Committee of the Party. However, after a year and a half, Abakirov was transferred to the position of First Deputy Head of the Department of Party Work at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan. In December 1973, he was elected as the Chairman of the Kyrgyz Republic Council of Trade Unions, a position he held until October 1995.
Afterwards, Abakirov served as the Deputy General Director of the "Dostuk" hotel, and from 2007, as an advisor to the General Director of the same hotel. He was elected as a delegate to the 25th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1976) and in 1989, he was elected as a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR representing the trade unions. He was a member of the Nationalities Council Commission on National Policy and Interethnic Relations.
Abakirov was awarded the honorary certificate of the Kyrgyz Republic on May 24, 1995. On March 17, 2009, he was awarded the Order of "Manas" III degree by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiev.
