The World's Oldest Living Man
Emilio Flores Marquez, a 112-year-old man from Puerto Rico, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest living male on Earth.
Early Life and Family
Marquez was born on August 8, 1908, in the northeastern region of Puerto Rico. The eldest of ten children, he worked tirelessly on the family's sugarcane farm, tending to the crops and assisting with the harvest. "As the oldest, I not only worked on the farm but also took care of my brothers and sisters," he recounted.
Marriage and Legacy
Marquez was married for 75 years to Andrea Perez, who passed away in 2010. Together, they welcomed four children, two of whom survive and continue to care for their father. He is also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Secret to Longevity
According to Marquez, the key to his exceptional longevity is a life lived with love and compassion. "My father raised me in love and taught me to love everyone around me. He taught me and my siblings to do good and to share," he said.
Breaking Records
Marquez surpassed the previous record holder, Dumitru Comanescu of Romania, who passed away at 112 on June 27, 2020. The overall world record for longevity belongs to Jeanne Calment of France, who died in August 1997 at the age of 122 years and 164 days. However, Calment's age has been subject to some skepticism.
