Personal Life and Early YearsEmma Andievska, born on March 19, 1931, in Donetsk, Ukraine, was the daughter of a chemist-inventor and an agronomist. Due to frequent illnesses, she excelled in her studies, completing most subjects as an external student. Her family's relocation to various cities, including Kiev, was a response to her health concerns.
World War II and Relocation to Germany
During World War II, Andievska's father was unjustly executed by Soviet authorities. This prompted her family's flight to Germany in 1943. She spent three years bedridden in Berlin due to spinal tuberculosis. After the war, the family moved to Munich.
Education and Marriage
Andievska graduated from the Ukrainian Free University in Munich with degrees in philosophy and philology in 1957. That same year, she married Ivan Koshelivets, a Ukrainian literary critic and writer. The couple spent forty years together.
Career at Radio Liberty
From 1955 to 1995, Andievska worked as an announcer, scriptwriter, and editor for the Ukrainian department of Radio Liberty in Munich. She is currently based in Munich.
