Biography of Eric Emerson Schmidt

Eric Emerson Schmidt is the CEO of Google. He was invited to join the company by the founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin from Novell, where he served as Chairman and CEO of their technology development and strategic planning division. Upon joining Google, Schmidt focused on developing the corporate infrastructure necessary to sustain the company's rapid growth while maintaining high product quality and minimizing development cycles. Alongside Page and Brin, Schmidt is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Google.

Prior to his tenure at Novell, Schmidt held executive positions at Sun Microsystems, Inc. as the Chief Technology Officer and CEO. During his time at Sun, he led the development of Java, a platform-independent programming language, and shaped Sun's software strategy for the Internet. Before joining Sun in 1983, Schmidt was a part of the research group at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), and also held positions at Bell Laboratories and Zilog.

Schmidt earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and obtained his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2006, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences, recognizing his contributions to the development of strategies for the world's most successful internet search company.
