Early Life and College Career
Eric Montross was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended Indianapolis Lawrence North High School, where he played varsity basketball. In 1994, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played for the North Carolina Tar Heels for four years. During his collegiate career, he accumulated 1627 points, 941 rebounds, 86 assists, 63 steals, and 169 blocks. He helped the Tar Heels win the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular season championship in 1993 and the ACC tournament in 1991 and 1994. Additionally, the Tar Heels reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament in 1991 and 1993, winning the National Championship in 1993.
NBA Career
Playing as a center, Montross was selected 9th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1994 NBA Draft. He later played for the Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors during his eight seasons in the NBA. Montross was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 1995 and the All-ACC Second Team in 1993 and 1994. In his NBA career, he played 465 games, scoring 2071 points (4.5 per game), grabbing 2159 rebounds, dishing out 207 assists, recording 122 steals, and blocking 275 shots.
International Career
In 1991, Montross helped the United States team win a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Havana.
