Biography of Erik Johansson

Early Life and Influences

Erik Johansson, a Swedish photographer and artist, was born in 1985 in the small town of Götene in southwestern Sweden. He grew up on a farm with his parents and two younger sisters. From a young age, Johansson had a passion for drawing, possibly influenced by his grandmother, who was a photographer. He also developed a fascination with computers at an early age, escaping to different worlds through computer games. When he was fifteen years old, he received his first digital camera, which opened up a whole new world for him. While he had been primarily focused on drawing for several years, his interest in computers led him to explore what could be achieved through photography and graphic editing.

Education and Career

In 2005, Johansson moved to Gothenburg to study computer science at Chalmers University of Technology. It was during his time at university that he rediscovered his interest in photo editing. Johansson had many ideas that he wanted to bring to life through his art, but he strived to make his works as realistic as possible, even when depicting fantastical scenes. He started sharing some of his works online and began receiving offers for commissions from local advertising agencies.

Juggling his studies and work, Johansson continued to pursue his own projects. As he spent more and more time on his photography and design work, Johansson realized that he wanted to explore a career as a professional photographer and designer. After completing his degree in interactive design, he relocated to Norrköping in eastern Sweden to begin his freelance design career. He established connections and started working on interesting projects both in Sweden and abroad.

Current Projects and Collaborations

In early 2012, Johansson decided it was time for something new and moved to Berlin, a city known for its inspiration and artist-friendly environment. Today, Johansson works on both personal and commissioned projects. In 2011, he became interested in street photo illusions, and in 2013, he expressed a desire to work on his first film project. He has collaborated with clients such as Google, Adobe, and Microsoft, but his personal projects remain a priority for him.
