Early Career and Junior SuccessErlend Bjøntegaard is a Norwegian biathlete who has achieved significant success at both the junior and senior levels. His competitive debut at the international level was at the 2008 Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding, where he competed in the under-19 age category. There, he earned a silver medal in the relay but did not finish higher than tenth in individual events.
The following year, in Canmore, Canada, Bjøntegaard won a silver medal in the sprint and a gold medal in the pursuit at the Junior World Championships. He earned his fourth medal at the junior level in 2011, winning a bronze medal in the relay at the championships in Nové Město.
Senior Debut and IBU Cup Success
Bjøntegaard made his senior debut in November 2010 at the first stage of the IBU Cup in Beitostølen, where he finished 29th and 46th in the two sprint races. He became a more regular competitor in the IBU Cup during the 2011/12 season and achieved his first professional victory in Altenburg, winning a sprint race.
World Cup Debut and Medals
Bjøntegaard made his World Cup debut on November 25, 2012, as part of the mixed relay team at the opening stage of the season. In his first start, he earned a second-place finish with his team.
He achieved his first individual podium finish in the World Cup during the 2017/18 season, placing third in the mass start at the sixth stage of the competition.
