Biography of Ernest Sogomonyan

Ernest Mikaelovich Sogomonyan (Armenian: Էրնեստ Միքայելի Սոգոմոնյան, born October 20, 1949, Martuni) is a member of the Armenian parliament and the father of Victor Sogomonyan.

Education and Early Career

Ernest Sogomonyan graduated from the Physics Faculty of the Armenian Pedagogical Institute named after H. Abovyan in 1971 and worked as a physics teacher. He then pursued a degree in philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Armenian University of Knowledge from 1977 to 1983. Additionally, Sogomonyan earned a degree in computer engineering from the Faculty of Computer Engineering at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute from 1980 to 1986.

During his early career, Sogomonyan taught at various educational institutions in Yerevan and held leadership positions in the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (Komsomol) and the trade union committee.

Political and Administrative Roles

Sogomonyan served as the head of the Komsomol department of the Yerevan City Committee from 1972 to 1973. From 1981 to 1986, he was the responsible secretary of the "Gitelik" association in the Soviet district and the head of the political education office of the party committee at the "Basalt" plant.

In the late 1980s, Sogomonyan held the position of the head of the Mashdots district council department of the Communist Party of Armenia. In the mid-1990s, he worked as a chief specialist in the administration of the President of Armenia.

Political Career

From 1995 to 1999, Sogomonyan served as a member of the Armenian parliament and was a member of the permanent commission on state-legal affairs. He was affiliated with the "Republic" faction during this time. Since 1998, he has been the chairman of the Social Democratic Party "Hunchakian."

Sogomonyan also worked as an associate professor at the Academy of Public Administration from 2005 to 2007.

On May 12, 2007, Sogomonyan was re-elected as a member of the Armenian parliament and became a member of the permanent commission on foreign relations. He is a member of the "Prosperous Armenia" party.
