Ervin Aders: The Father of the Tigers
Early CareerErvin Aders, a German engineer, joined Henschel & Sohn AG in 1936 as the Chief Engineer and Head of New Developments. He transitioned to tank design, leaving behind the design of locomotives, airplanes, and cranes.
World War II Innovations
Aders led the team behind the experimental breakthrough tanks DW.1 and DW.2 from 1937 to 1938. During World War II, he oversaw the development of the VK.3001 and VK.4501, which paved the way for the legendary PzKpfw VI "Tiger" and PzKpfw VI B "Tiger II" tanks.
"Father of Tigers"
Aders' contributions to these remarkable machines earned him the unofficial title of "Tigervater" (Father of Tigers). His designs played a crucial role in shaping the course of armored warfare.
Post-War Contributions
After the war, Aders continued his work in armored vehicle design with the merged Rheinstahl-Hanomag-Henschel. He is believed to have been involved in the development of advanced German armored vehicles, including the Leopard main battle tank and the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.
