In the spring of 2000, fate orchestrated a meeting between bassist Kudobay, guitarist Maxim, and drummer Grisha. Together with vocalist Kostya "Myaso," they resurrected the once-formidable band G.A.P.
Their first performance as G.A.P. took place at the "Polygon Club" alongside renowned bands like Psikheya and Scang. They graced the stages of illustrious clubs like Moloko, Spartak, and Polygon, sharing the bill with esteemed acts like Biohazard. Their momentum culminated in a memorable open air concert in Sosnovy Bor with Dua Samoleta and Tequilajazz.
A Shift in the Lineup
In the autumn of 2000, Grisha was replaced by Ilya, and the band continued to perform. Their track "Pati" earned them a spot on the "Scang Fest" compilation cassette. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, most of the lineup departed in early 2001, leaving Kostya as the sole remnant.
The Birth of Eskimo
Undeterred, Kostya rallied a fresh roster of musicians, embarking on a lengthy search for a vocalist. After numerous unsuccessful auditions, they stumbled upon Gosha, a flamboyant and unconventional frontman. His unconventional style proved to be a perfect fit, coinciding with the addition of trumpet player Vladimir. The lineup was further enhanced by the arrival of second guitarist Vyacheslav, creating a unique harmonic synergy.
Choosing the Name
After much deliberation, the band settled on the name "Eskimo" following unsuccessful attempts to adopt titles such as "Bitch Control" or "Oborotnaya Peristaltika."
Musical Evolution
Eskimo's live performances extended to venues like Moloko, Polygon, Pyatnitsa, Red Club, and Orlandina. They ventured beyond St. Petersburg, playing in Petrozavodsk and Siniavino, catering to both schoolchildren and seniors.
The band's musical canvas expanded with the inclusion of DJ and computer enthusiast Andrey "Pazzo," who brought the elements of electronica to their sound. Work commenced on their debut album, heralding a new chapter in Eskimo's musical journey.
