Espen Andersen: Norwegian Combined Skier
Espen Andersen is a Norwegian combined skier who has achieved success in both junior and senior competitions.
Junior Career
Andersen's early achievements came at the junior level. At the 2012 World Junior Championships, he won a bronze medal in the 5km Gundersen and finished fourth in the team event. In 2013, his results were less impressive. However, his debut on the World Cup stage in Oslo marked the end of his junior career.
Early Senior Career
In subsequent seasons, Andersen alternated between the World Cup and Continental Cup competitions. He finally became a regular fixture in the World Cup team for the 2016/2017 season. His first podium finish came in a team event in Lillehammer, where he earned second place. He also competed in the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, achieving a best result of tenth place in the HS130 and 10km events.
Breakthrough Season
In September 2017, Andersen made a breakthrough at the Summer Grand Prix in Planica, finishing second behind his teammate Magnus Moan. This success continued into the winter season, where he achieved his first World Cup victory in Ruka, Finland, on November 24, 2017. A week later, he won a second victory in Lillehammer.
