Estanislao Basora, a renowned Spanish footballer, graced the pitch as a right-winger. He left an indelible mark on the history of FC Barcelona, becoming one of its most esteemed players.

Early Career and Transition to Barcelona

Born into a textile industry family, Basora began his footballing journey with amateur clubs such as Colonia Valls, Suria, and Manresa. In 1946, he made the momentous move to Barcelona, where he would spend the majority of his illustrious career.

Barcelona Glory and Accolades

Over 13 years with Barcelona, Basora played 373 matches and scored a remarkable 153 goals. He was an integral part of the iconic forward line that included Ladislav Kubala, Eduardo Manchón, and Tomás Hernández. During his time at the club, Basora helped Barcelona secure four La Liga titles, three Copa Eva Duarte cups, two Latin Cups, four Copa del Generalísimo victories, and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

International Career and Nickname

Basora represented Spain 22 times, scoring 13 goals. He made his international debut in 1949 and earned the nickname "El Monstruo de Colombes" (The Monster of Colombes) after scoring three goals against France. Basora participated in the 1950 World Cup, where he netted five goals.

Retirement and Legacy

In 1958, Basora decided to retire from professional football. He played his farewell match in the semi-final of the Copa del Generalísimo, scoring two goals. Despite offers from English clubs, he refused to leave his beloved Spain.

Basora held a prominent position in the history of FC Barcelona. His 153 goals place him 10th on the club's all-time scoring list. He was inducted into the Barcelona Legends Team during the club's 75th anniversary celebration in 1974.

Basora was married to Margaret and had two daughters. On March 16, 2012, he passed away at the Universitario de Gran Canaria Hospital following a heart attack. His legacy as one of Barcelona's greatest forwards will forever be etched in the annals of football history.
