Biography of Eugene Roche

Eugene Harrison Roche, better known as Eugene Roche, was an American actor born in 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts. He began his acting career at a young age, working in radio at the age of 15. Notably, Roche displayed remarkable skill in both male and female roles.

Early Life and Career

After finishing school, Roche enlisted in the army and later attended Emerson College. In 1961, he made his Broadway debut in the play "Blood, Sweat and Stanley Poole." It was around this time that he started appearing in films and on television. His early television credits include roles in "Naked City" and "Route 66." In the same year, Roche made his film debut in Elia Kazan's drama "Splendor in the Grass." Although the film won an Oscar, Roche's role was small and his name was not even mentioned in the credits.

Television and Film Career

In the 1970s, Eugene Roche became a familiar face on television, appearing in numerous projects. He worked on popular series such as "Soap," "Taxi," and "Vega$." Roche also gained recognition for his role in a memorable Ajax commercial. In 1977, he had a significant role in Robert Benton's comedy "The Late Show," and the following year, he co-starred with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase in Colin Higgins' comedy film "Foul Play." One of his notable television roles was in the sitcom "Perfect Strangers," which premiered in 1986.

Later Career and Personal Life

Throughout his life, Eugene Roche portrayed over a hundred characters, with the majority being episodic roles in television series. His filmography includes appearances in "Murder, She Wrote," "Crazy Like a Fox," "Julie," "Batman," "Star Trek: Voyager," and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show," among many others. He is particularly remembered for his role as Pinky Peterson in the acclaimed series "All In The Family."

Eugene Roche was married twice. His first wife, Marjory Perkins, was his spouse from 1953 and together they had nine children. They divorced in 1981, and Roche remarried in 1982. Three of his children also pursued careers in acting.

Eugene Roche passed away at the age of 75 from a heart attack in Los Angeles on July 28, 2004.
