Education and Influences

Andrzej Krzanowski graduated from the Katowice Higher School of Music in 1976, where he studied composition under Henryk Górecki and piano under Czesław Stańczyk. With a grant from the French government, he pursued further studies in Paris with Olivier Messiaen.

Awards and Recognition

Krzanowski's musical abilities were recognized through numerous awards. He won first prize at the "Young Musicians – Young City" competition in 1978 for his "Chorale, Interlude, and Aria for Flute, Harpsichord, and Strings." In 1977, he received third prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Vienna for his "Concerto Grosso."

Academic Pursuits

Krzanowski holds the professorship in composition at the Katowice Academy of Music named after Szymanowski. Since 1992, he has directed the Computer and Electronic Music Studio established at the academy.

Major Works

Amongst Krzanowski's significant works is the operatic trilogy, "The Minds of Helena Troubleyn." Composed between 1987 and 1996, it was created in collaboration with librettist and stage director Jan Fabre.
