Evaristo Barrera

Evaristo Barrera was born in Argentina and began his football career at the renowned Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1932. As a prolific striker, he quickly rose to fame, becoming the club's top goalscorer twice — in 1934 with 34 goals and in 1936 with 32. Overall, Barrera amassed an impressive 136 goals in 142 matches for Racing Club, a record that remains unsurpassed in the club's professional era.
Departure to Italy
In 1938, at a time when foreign players were banned from the Italian league, Barrera pursued greener pastures in Europe. To overcome the restrictions, he obtained an Italian passport, enabling him to join Lazio in Rome.
Italian Club Career
Barrera's Italian adventure continued with stints at Napoli and later at clubs in the lower tiers of Italian football. Despite his talent, he failed to replicate the same level of success he had achieved at Racing Club.
Later Career and Coaching
After retiring as a player, Barrera attempted a brief but unsuccessful career as a coach, ultimately hanging up his boots for good.
