Early Career at Vélez Sarsfield
Otamendi began his professional career with Vélez Sarsfield in Argentina. He made his debut in the Primera División in 2008 and quickly became a mainstay in the team's defense. Under manager Ricardo Gareca, Otamendi became the starting center-back in the 2009 Clausura tournament, helping Vélez Sarsfield win the championship. His impressive performances caught the attention of Diego Maradona, who called him up to the Argentina national team.
Transfer to Porto
In 2010, Otamendi joined Portuguese club Porto. At Porto, he established himself as a key defender, contributing to the team's success in winning multiple trophies.
