Evgeny Belosheykin was born on April 17, 1966, in Sakhalin, Russia. He was considered the best Soviet hockey goaltender of the mid-1980s. Belosheykin achieved the title of Honored Master of Sports of International Class and played for various teams during his career.
From 1983 to 1984, Belosheykin played for the SKA team in Leningrad. He then joined the CSKA team in Moscow from 1985 to 1988. During this time, he became the champion of the USSR from 1985 to 1987 and won the USSR Cup in 1988. Belosheykin also represented the Soviet Union in international competitions and won the World Championship in 1986, becoming the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
He was a key player in the Soviet Union's victories at the European Championships in 1986 and 1987. Belosheykin also participated in the Olympic Games in 1988, where he won a gold medal. His exceptional performance on the ice led to him being recognized as one of the greatest goaltenders of his time.
Despite his success in hockey, Belosheykin faced personal struggles. He tragically took his own life on November 18, 1999, in St. Petersburg. His untimely death shocked the hockey community, and he was laid to rest at the Bogoslovskoye Cemetery.
Throughout his career, Belosheykin showcased immense talent and potential. His skills and achievements on the ice were overshadowed by personal demons, leading to a tragic end. Despite the challenges he faced, Belosheykin remains remembered as one of the most talented goaltenders in Soviet hockey history.
