Early Life and Career

Kent Gemmell Douglas was born on February 6, 1936, in Cobalt, Ontario, Canada. His hockey journey began in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Springfield Indians, where he played for five seasons from 1955-56 to 1961-62.

NHL Success with the Toronto Maple Leafs

In 1962, Douglas made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs. During his rookie season (1962-63), he emerged as a standout defenseman and was named the Calder Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's top rookie. That same season, the Maple Leafs captured the Stanley Cup, making Douglas a Stanley Cup champion.

Later NHL Career and AHL Legacy

After his tenure with the Maple Leafs, Douglas played for the Detroit Red Wings from 1967-68 to 1968-69. He then returned to the AHL, joining the Baltimore Clippers, where he spent five seasons as a player and two as a coach.
