Biography of Yevhen Seleznev
Yevhen Seleznev is a Ukrainian footballer who played as a forward. He was born on July 20, 1985, in Makiivka, Donetsk Oblast. Seleznev began his football education in the academy of the local team "Shakhtar" and DYUSSH-3 (Mariupol). From 1999 to 2001, he was part of the FC "Donbass" system. In 2001, he joined the academy of Donetsk's "Shakhtar".
Club Career
In 2002, Seleznev started his professional career in the farm clubs of "Shakhtar" - "Shakhter-3" and "Shakhter-2", where he played a total of 64 matches and scored 28 goals. In the winter of 2007, he was loaned to Kyiv's "Arsenal". He made his debut in the Ukrainian Premier League on March 4, 2007, against "Chernomorets" Odessa (2-0). In June 2008, after returning from the loan, Yevhen signed a new contract with "Shakhtar" until 2013 but only played one season for the Donetsk team.
In the 2008/09 season, Seleznev became the winner of the UEFA Cup with "Shakhtar". On July 24, 2009, he signed a three-year contract with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for a transfer fee of 4.5 million euros. In his first season with the new team, Seleznev became the main striker, playing 27 matches and scoring 13 goals in the Ukrainian Premier League. In the following season, he became the top scorer of the league, surpassing Metalist's Marco Devic by three goals.
In June 2011, Seleznev returned to "Shakhtar". In the 2011/12 season, "Shakhtar" became the champion of Ukraine and won the domestic cup. Yevhen once again became the top scorer of the Ukrainian Premier League, scoring 14 goals, the same as Myron Markevych from "Volyn". At the end of August 2012, he returned to Dnipro, signing a four-year contract. In the 2013/14 season, Dnipro won silver medals in the Ukrainian Premier League. Seleznev scored 13 goals, but the top scorer of the league with 20 goals was Shakhtar's forward, Luis Adriano.
In the 2014/15 season, Dnipro finished third in the league and reached the final of the UEFA Europa League. Seleznev scored the decisive goal in the semifinal match against Napoli, which sent Dnipro to the final. In Warsaw, Dnipro lost to Sevilla with a score of 2-3. In the summer of 2015, Dnipro faced financial difficulties, and Seleznev became the team's top scorer after the departures of Nikola Kalinic and Yevhen Konoplyanka.
In February 2016, he joined Kuban Krasnodar in Russia. In May of the same year, Seleznev terminated his contract with the club by mutual agreement. Shortly before that, the Kuban management accused Seleznev of match-fixing. On May 14, 2016, it was announced that Seleznev returned to Shakhtar and signed a two-year contract. However, he left the team in the winter transfer window and signed with Turkish club Karabukspor. Later, he played for Akhisar Belediyespor in Turkey and Malaga in Spain.
In September 2020, Seleznev returned to Ukraine and joined Bursaspor. In September 2021, he signed a one-year contract with Minaj. Throughout his career, Seleznev has achieved success with various clubs, winning domestic championships and cups.
International Career
Seleznev represented the Ukrainian national team, making his debut on May 24, 2008, in a friendly match against the Netherlands. He scored his first international goal from a penalty kick against Norway on November 19, 2008, in a friendly match. Seleznev was included in the squad of 23 players for the UEFA Euro 2012 but did not play any matches in the tournament.
He continued to play for the national team and scored important goals, contributing to Ukraine's success in various international competitions.
