Biography of Fabian Hambuechen
Fabian Hambuechen is a German gymnast, Olympic champion, and two-time Olympic medalist. He is also a world champion and six-time European champion, with his most successful event being the high bar.
Early Career
Fabian Hambuechen's first international victories came in 2002 when he became the Junior European Champion. He repeated this success two years later, but at his first Olympic Games in Athens, he finished 7th in the high bar and 8th in the team event.
2005-2008
In 2005, Hambuechen won his first gold medal in the high bar at the European Championships in Debrecen. The following year, he won two bronze medals at the World Championships in Aarhus, in the all-around and vault events. In 2007, he achieved five medals, including gold, at the World Championships in Stuttgart and gold and silver at the European Championships in Amsterdam. In the same year, Hambuechen was named the German Athlete of the Year along with Magdalena Neuner. In the 2008 European Championships, he won another gold medal in the high bar.
Summer Olympics in Beijing
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Hambuechen finished 4th and 7th in the parallel bars, floor exercise, and all-around events, but won the bronze medal in the high bar, securing his first Olympic medal.
2009-2012
In 2009, Hambuechen won two gold medals and one bronze at the European Championships in Milan. Over the next two years, he added three more bronze medals to his collection from the World and European Championships. He also won three major awards at the German Championships in 2011 and 2012.
Summer Olympics in London
Fabian Hambuechen represented Germany at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and won the silver medal in the high bar, narrowly missing out on the gold to Epke Zonderland from the Netherlands. Despite executing a flawless routine, Hambuechen's difficulty score (7.5) was slightly lower than Zonderland's (7.9).
2013
In April 2013, Hambuechen finished 6th in the high bar at the European Championships in Moscow. He then went on to become a bronze medalist in the all-around and a silver medalist in the high bar at the World Championships in Antwerp.
European Games
At the European Games in Baku in 2015, Hambuechen won the silver medal in the floor exercise.
Universiade 2015
Following the European Games, Hambuechen participated in the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, where he won gold in the high bar event.
