Farahnaz Ispahani: A Distinguished Diplomat and Politician

Farahnaz Ispahani, a prominent Pakistani politician, served as the Spokesperson to President Asif Ali Zardari. Her grandfather held the honor of being Pakistan's first ambassador to the United States.

Early Life and Education

Ispahani was born in Karachi into a family of civil servants. She spent time in Dhaka and London before pursuing her education at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in political science. Her husband, Husain Haqqani, is the current Pakistani Ambassador to the United States.

Journalistic Career

Prior to her political career, Ispahani worked in journalism for over two decades, both in print and broadcasting. She held positions with MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and VOA. She served as the Chief Editor and Executive Producer for Voice of America's Urdu Service. Additionally, Ispahani was the Special Reports Editor for the leading Pakistani news magazine Herald and the Editor of Zameen, a magazine catering to the Pakistani diaspora. She is also a regular contributor to The News International, the largest-circulated English-language newspaper in Pakistan.

Political Engagement

In 2006, Ispahani joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by Benazir Bhutto, as part of their public relations division. In early 2008, she was elected to the Pakistani Parliament as a member of the PPP, representing the province of Sindh. That same year, she was appointed as the Press Secretary to President Asif Ali Zardari. She is also a member of the Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting, Youth Affairs, and the Human Rights Committee.
