Early Life and Education
Born in Ukraine, the future Soviet writer and journalist graduated from the Kharkiv Institute of National Economy in 1924.
Literary Beginnings
His literary career commenced in 1930, and he became a member of the Union of Soviet Writers in 1935. Prior to this, he worked for the newspapers "Ukrainian Economist" and "Economic Life."
World War II and Captivity
With the outbreak of World War II, he joined the 8th Krasnopresnenskaya Division of the People's Militia. During the Battle of Vyazma, he was wounded, captured, and escaped captivity to return to Kharkiv.
Post-War Career
In 1943, the Soviet forces liberated Kharkiv, and he officially retired from the military. He worked for the newspaper "Socialist Kharkiv." Two years later, he moved to Moscow and contributed to the magazines "Ogonyok" and "Krestyanka."
Literary Legacy
His most famous work, the science fiction novel "Scorched Earth," was published posthumously.
