Biography of Felix Zemdegs
Felix Zemdegs is an Australian speedcuber and the current world champion in solving Rubik's Cube. He is widely recognized as one of the most outstanding masters in various disciplines of this unique sport.
Early Life and Introduction to Speedcubing
Felix Zemdegs, born in Australia, developed his passion for speedcubing at the age of 12. In 2008, he began solving the Rubik's Cube with an average time of 20 seconds. He learned the techniques through specialized videos and tutorials on Youtube. Zemdegs set his first personal record on June 14, 2008, solving the cube in 19.73 seconds, although it was not officially recognized. However, this did not deter Zemdegs from pursuing his goal of becoming the best in the world.
Rising to the Top
Through relentless training and dedication, Zemdegs achieved remarkable progress in speedcubing. By January 30, 2010, he became one of the few people capable of solving the Rubik's Cube in less than 10 seconds. In July 2009, Zemdegs made his debut at the World Championship in New Zealand, where he won the competition for speedcubers with an average time of 13.74 seconds. Additionally, he triumphed in solving the cube blindfolded, one-handed, and with non-standard cubes such as 2x2, 4x4, and 5x5.
World Records and Achievements
In January 2010, at a tournament in Melbourne, Zemdegs set his first two world records by solving the 3x3 cube in 9.21 seconds and the 4x4 cube in 42 seconds. However, at the 2011 World Championship in Bangkok, Zemdegs finished in third place, securing a bronze medal with an astonishing time of 9.58 seconds.
In 2013, Zemdegs once again competed in the World Championship held in Las Vegas. The tournament featured 575 participants from 37 countries, and Zemdegs showcased his exceptional skills in various speedcubing disciplines. His average solving time for the 3x3 cube was 8.18 seconds, with the fastest solve recorded at 7.36 seconds. Zemdegs claimed the world champion title for solving the 4x4 cube and the 3x3 cube one-handed, solidifying his position as one of the best speedcubers in the tournament.
