Felix Graf von Bothmer
Early Life and Military CareerFelix Graf von Bothmer was born on December 10, 1852, in Munich, Germany, to General Max Graf von Bothmer and Laura Gettin. In 1871, he joined the Bavarian army. Over the next four decades, he served in various positions within the Bavarian War Ministry and General Staff, including three years in the General Staff in Berlin. In 1910, he was promoted to General of Infantry.
World War I
On November 30, 1914, Bothmer was appointed commander of the 6th Bavarian Reserve Division at Ypres. In March 1915, he took command of the 2nd Bavarian Reserve Corps, later renamed Bothmer's Corps, which defended the Carpathian Mountains from Russian attacks. Shortly after, he became commander of the Southern Army.
Between February 5 and April 9, 1915, Bothmer's forces captured the Dżwinów Ridge. From July 7, 1915 to 1917, he commanded the Southern Army. In July 1917, he successfully defended against the Russian Brusilov Offensive.
Later Career and Retirement
In 1917, Bothmer was appointed commander of the 19th Army in Lorraine. In April 1918, he was promoted to Generaloberst. From November to December 1918, he served as an advisor in the Bavarian War Ministry. He retired in December 1918 and died in Munich on March 18, 1937.
