Kurt von Schleicher's Close Associate: Kurt von Bredow
Early Life and CareerKurt von Bredow, born into a military family in 1885, pursued a career in the German army. He ascended the ranks, eventually becoming a general and assuming leadership of the Abwehr, Germany's military intelligence and counterintelligence service.
Role in Schleicher's Government
Von Bredow played a pivotal role in the government of Kurt von Schleicher, the last Reich Chancellor of the Weimar Republic. As Schleicher's confidant and deputy, he possessed sensitive information that could compromise the leadership of the Third Reich.
Assassination
During the Night of the Long Knives on June 30, 1934, von Bredow became one of the many victims. A group of assailants stormed his residence, forcing him into a police van where he was murdered. His body was callously discarded into a roadside ditch.
Motives behind the Assassination
It is believed that the suppression of von Bredow's secret knowledge was a primary motive for his assassination. Additionally, his close association with von Schleicher, who was also killed during the purge, may have further sealed his fate.
