Early Life and Education

Khristofor Mikhailovich Krasnokutsky was born on May 1, 1904, in Смела, Cherkasy Oblast, to a Jewish family. He completed his secondary education in 1920 and studied for two years at a medical technical school before working as a physical education instructor.

Military Career

In 1926, Krasnokutsky was drafted into the Red Army. He graduated from the Kyiv Infantry Commander Training Courses in 1930 and participated in the Soviet invasion of Western Ukraine in 1939. He fought in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940, where he commanded a battalion in the 123rd Rifle Division.

World War II

With the outbreak of World War II on June 22, 1941, Krasnokutsky commanded a regiment. For his role in defeating the German Orel grouping, he was appointed deputy commander of the rifle division. He also served as head of the army's combat training department.

Post-War Life

After the war, Krasnokutsky headed the military department of the Novgorod State Teachers' Institute from September to November 1946. He retired from the military in 1953 with the rank of major general and lived in Kyiv until his death on August 15, 1982. He was buried at the Lukyanovsky Military Cemetery.

Awards and Honors

Krasnokutsky was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union title on March 21, 1940, for his heroic actions during the Soviet-Finnish War. He also received the Order of the Red Star (twice), the Order of the Red Banner (twice), and the Order of Lenin (twice).
