Ivan Lazarevych Piddubnyi: Twice Hero of Socialist Labor

Ivan Lazarevych Piddubnyi was born on November 27 (December 10), 1904, in the village of Tymanivka in the Podilska Governorate (now part of Tulchyn Raion in Vinnytsia Oblast, Ukraine).

Early Career and War

In 1929, Piddubnyi became the chairman of the "Red October" collective farm in Tulchyn Raion, a position he held until 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, he served on the front lines from 1942 onwards.

Post-War Leadership

After the war, in 1946, Piddubnyi was appointed as the permanent chairman of the collective farm in Tymanivka (later renamed the F.A. Zhelyuk Collective Farm of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor). He remained in this position until his death in 1976.

Political and Public Service

Piddubnyi joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1926. He was a delegate to the 22nd through 25th Congresses of the Communist Party of Ukraine and a member of its Central Committee from 1966 onwards. He also served as a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR from the 5th to 8th convocations.

Awards and Recognition

Piddubnyi was twice awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor (in 1958 and 1974). He also received numerous other awards, including three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various other orders and medals.

Legacy

Ivan Lazarevych Piddubnyi passed away in Kyiv on November 22, 1976. He is remembered as an outstanding figure in Ukrainian agriculture and a dedicated servant of the Soviet people.
