The Belfast Bruiser: Dave "Fit" Finlay

Early Career

In 1978, Dave Finlay, son of promoter David "Fit" Finlay Sr., embarked on his wrestling journey in his native Ireland. A year later, he moved to the United Kingdom and trained under Ted Betley, mentor to the legendary British Bulldogs.

European Dominance

Finlay debuted in Joint Promotions, managed by his future wife, Princess Paula. In 1982, he defeated Alan Kilby to become British Light Heavyweight Champion. This was followed by a reign as British Heavyweight Middleweight Champion, a victory over Marty Jones for the World Heavyweight Middleweight Championship, and a run as CWWA Tag Team Champion with his former adversary, Marty Jones.

Journeyman's Path

Throughout the 1990s, Finlay traveled extensively. He became CWA World Middleweight Champion twice, defeated Eddie Gilbert, and toured Japan with Chris Benoit. He also captured the CWA Intercontinental and British Commonwealth Championships.

WCW Debut

As the Belfast Bruiser, Finlay made his WCW debut in 1995. He feuded with Steven Regal, playing off their Anglo-Irish backgrounds. Finlay won the WCW Television Championship from Chris Benoit but lost it to Booker T.

Hardcore Champion

In 1999, Finlay won the Hardcore Junkyard Invitational to become the inaugural WCW Hardcore Champion. However, his injury-ridden leg hindered his reign, and Jimmy Hart stole the title.

Injury and Recovery

A brutal attack by Brian Knobbs in 1999 left Finlay with a severe knee injury. Despite the dire prognosis, he returned to WCW and feuded with Knobbs. He later left the promotion and returned to the UK.

WWE Chapter

After WCW, Finlay worked as a Road Agent in WWE, mentoring Divas. He made sporadic in-ring appearances, including a victory over Jamie Noble in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2004.

"The Belfast Nightmare"

In 2005, Finlay returned to WWE as "The Belfast Nightmare" on SmackDown!. His aggressive tactics often led to disqualification victories. He defeated Lashley in a Lumberjack match, earning a spot in the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania 22.
