Biography of Flora Kerimova

Flora Kerimova, an Azerbaijani pop singer, was born on July 23, 1941 in Baku. She began her career in the early 1960s, making her debut at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic in October 1960. Kerimova's repertoire consists of lyrical compositions, however, she also performs rhythmic songs. She particularly enjoyed working with composer Emin Sabitoglu, who wrote beautiful lyrical songs for her. She also includes songs by Ramiz Mirishli, Tofik Kuliyev, Aigun Samedzade, Khamal, Khanym Ismailgizi, and many other composers in her repertoire.

In 1965, Kerimova enrolled in the N. Narimanov Medical Institute, studying medicine until 1971. She then pursued her passion for music by attending the Conservatory from 1972 to 1977, specializing in vocal performance and expanding her vocal range to four octaves.

In 1983, Flora Kerimova became a soloist for the Azerbaijani State Television. Over the years, she has become one of the most popular singers in Azerbaijani pop music and has recorded and released over 20 solo albums. In 1992, she was awarded the title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan, becoming the first singer to receive this honor in independent Azerbaijan.

During the mid-1990s, Kerimova actively engaged in political activities and became a member of the Musavat Party. This led to her opposition to the government and resulted in her disappearance from the airwaves and media coverage. However, she eventually returned to the music scene and television in 2000 with the release of her song "Ezizim" (My Dear). She started including songs by young composers in her repertoire.

Currently, Kerimova can perform on four out of seven Azerbaijani channels. In recent years, she has been a sought-after guest at festive concerts and New Year's Eve celebrations. She has two children, a daughter and a son.
