Florentino Pérez: A Businessman, Engineer, and Politician
Early Life and EducationFlorentino Pérez was born on March 8, 1947, in the Hortaleza district of Madrid, Spain. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid with a degree in civil engineering.

Political Career
In 1979, Pérez joined the Union of the Democratic Centre and served in the Madrid City Council. He ran as a candidate for the Democratic Reform Party in the 1986 Spanish general elections.

Construction and Business
In 1993, Pérez became Vice President of OCP Construcciones. After the merger of OCP and Actividades de Construcción y Servicios (ACS), Pérez led the newly formed group as its President.

Real Madrid Presidency: First Term
Pérez first ran for President of Real Madrid in 1995 but lost to Ramón Mendoza. In 2000, he made a successful bid, promising to sign Luís Figo from Barcelona.

Galácticos Era
During his first term, Pérez embarked on the "Galácticos" strategy, signing top players every season, including Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Robinho. The club won two La Liga titles in his first two years as President.
Resignation and Return
In 2006, Pérez resigned as President, citing the need for a new direction. However, in 2009, he re-ran and returned as the only candidate willing to pay €57 million.
José Mourinho and Fourth Term
In 2010, Pérez appointed José Mourinho as head coach. In 2013, he was elected President for a fourth term.

Florentino Pérez was married to María Ángeles "Pitina" Sandoval Montero, who passed away from cancer in 2012.
