Early Life and Education
Florian Philippot was born in Forbach, France. In his youth, he became politically active, supporting Jean-Pierre Chevènement in the 2002 French presidential election. In 2005, he graduated from HEC Paris Business School and in 2009 from the National School of Administration.
Political Involvement with the National Front
After graduating, Philippot joined the National Front in 2011. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Chairman in 2012. He played a key role in Marine Le Pen's presidential campaign that year.
Despite losing in the 2012 legislative elections, Philippot was elected to the European Parliament in 2014 and to the Grand Est Regional Council in 2015. He also served as a municipal councilor in Forbach from 2014 to 2016.
Founding "Les Patriotes"
In 2017, after Le Pen's defeat in the presidential election, Philippot founded the association "Les Patriotes" under the National Front's umbrella. The association aimed to promote Le Pen's ideas and advocate for a "new political force."
Exit from the National Front and Creation of a New Party
In September 2017, Le Pen demanded Philippot's resignation from the association, citing a conflict of interest. Philippot and his supporters subsequently left the National Front.
In September 2017, Philippot announced plans to transform "Les Patriotes" into a political party with the goal of "bringing patriotism to power." The party was officially launched on October 30, 2022.
Allegations Regarding the Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage
In October 2022, Philippot accused NATO countries of being responsible for the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. He claimed that Sweden had evidence but was withholding it, and that NATO powers were behind the attack.
