Louis Freeh was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees.
FBI Career
In 1964, Freeh joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent. He served in the Birmingham, Boston, Philadelphia, and Kansas City field offices, as well as at FBI headquarters. He rose through the ranks, holding positions as Special Agent, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Deputy Assistant Director, Executive Assistant Director, Deputy Director, and finally, Acting Director.
Acting FBI Director
Following the election of Bill Clinton as the 42nd President of the United States in 1993, the outgoing Director of the FBI, William Sessions, was dismissed. Freeh was appointed Acting Director on July 19, 1993, and served in that capacity until Louis Freeh was sworn in as Director on September 1, 1993.
Post-FBI Career
After leaving the FBI, Freeh joined MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, Inc., where he currently serves as Vice President.
