Biography of Forrest Griffin

Early Life

Forrest Griffin was born on July 1, 1979. He attended Evans High School in Evans, Georgia, and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in political science. While in university, he worked as a patrol officer in the university's police department.

MMA Career

Griffin trained in Athens, Georgia, under the guidance of Adam and Rory Singer for five years. He left his job in law enforcement to pursue a career in professional mixed martial arts. Before joining the UFC, Griffin fought against Jeremy Horn, Chael Sonnen, and had his first professional fight against Dan Severn.

Griffin gained recognition when he appeared on the reality show "The Ultimate Fighter" on Spike TV. At the time, he was working in a sheriff's department in Georgia when Dana White convinced him to participate in the show. He reached the finals and defeated Stephan Bonnar by unanimous decision, a fight that is often referred to as the most important in UFC history. Griffin was then signed to a six-figure contract by Dana White.

Griffin had notable fights against Tito Ortiz, where he gained a new fan base for his resilience despite the loss. He also had a rematch against Bonnar, winning the fight in three rounds. Griffin's match against Hector Ramirez in Belfast, Northern Ireland, set a UFC record for the number of leg kicks landed in a fight. He has faced various opponents throughout his career, including Lyoto Machida, but had to withdraw from some fights due to injuries and infections.

Griffin was scheduled to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in 2010 but had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. He later faced Rich Franklin in 2011. Outside of the octagon, Griffin married his long-time girlfriend, Jaime Logiudice, on September 19, 2009.
