Early Life and Career
Frances Reid was born in 1914 in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Charles William and Anna May (Priest) Reid, a banker. She grew up in Berkeley, California. Her acting career began in 1937, and during this early period, she managed to land small roles in films such as "Reported Missing," "Stage Door," and "Man-Proof." She also started performing on Broadway in the 1930s, appearing in productions such as "The Dream of Sganarelle," "Revenge with Music," and "Where There's a Will."

Television Success
However, Frances Reid is best known for her television roles. Her most popular work came in the 1960s when she portrayed Alice Horton in the NBC soap opera "Days of our Lives." Before that, she played notable characters such as Portia Blake Manning in the series "Portia Faces Life," Grace Baker in the soap opera "As the World Turns," and Rose Pollock in the show "The Edge of Night." In 1960, Reid starred in the science fiction thriller film "Seconds" directed by John Frankenheimer, and in 1971, she appeared in the same genre project, "The Andromeda Strain," directed by Robert Wise. She also had roles in other television series, including "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour," "Ben Casey," "Dr. Kildare," "F.B.I.," and "S.W.A.T."

Awards and Recognition
Frances Reid received several nominations and awards throughout her career. She was nominated for an Emmy award twice in 1979 and 1987 for her work on "Days of our Lives" and finally won the award in 2004 for her "lifetime achievement." She passed away at the age of 95 on February 3, 2010, in Beverly Hills, California, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. It is known that she was married to actor Philip Bourneuf from 1940 to 1979, but they did not have any children.
