Background and Early Career

Toni Vilander, a Finnish racing driver, was born on July 24, 1980, in Kirkkonummi, Finland. His passion for racing started at an early age, and he began his career in karting at the age of five. Vilander quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Finnish Karting Championship's Junior A class in 1995. In 1999, he claimed victory in both the German and Oceania Karting Championships.

Transition to Open-Wheel Racing

In 2001, Vilander transitioned to open-wheel racing. He competed in the Italian Formula-3 Championship with the Coloni team in 2004. The following year, he joined the European Series 3000 with Coloni, while also participating in the Italian GT Championship.

Formula 2 and Italian Formula 3000

In 2005, Vilander made his debut in the GP2 Series with the Coloni team, replacing Gianmaria Bruni mid-season. Despite facing some challenges with the team, he showcased his talent, finishing in the top 15 in four of his six races. In the same year, he achieved a fourth-place finish in the Italian Formula 3000 Championship, amassing 23 points.

Dominance in GT Racing

From 2006 onwards, Vilander's career shifted towards GT racing, where he enjoyed immense success. Together with Alessandro Pier Guidi, he won the Italian GT2 Championship in 2006, earning 182 points. The duo also claimed victory in the GT2 class of the 1000 Mil Milhas Brasil race.

FIA GT2 Champion

In 2007, Vilander partnered with Dirk Müller to win the GT2 class of the FIA GT Championship. The following year, he successfully defended his title with Gianmaria Bruni as his co-driver.

Endurance Racing Accolades

Vilander's GT racing achievements continued in the World Endurance Championship. In 2014, he won the LMGTE Pro class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most prestigious races in motorsport. He also took home the GT World Cup title for endurance racing in the same year.

Later Career

Throughout his career, Vilander has competed in various other racing series, including the Blancpain GT Series and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. He has continued to demonstrate his versatility and skill, earning several podium finishes and championships in these categories.
