Francesco Guardi (1712–1793) was an Italian artist and a prominent representative of the Venetian vedutisti school. Born on October 5, 1712 in Venice, he received his artistic education from his brother, Giovanni Antonio Guardi (1698–1760), a master of altar compositions in the Rococo style.
Artistic Style
Guardi's later works resemble the paintings of Tiepolo and Canaletto. He gained fame as a creator of poetic and imaginative views of Venice. His landscapes were based on immediate impressions and observations.
