Early Life and Playing Career
Born in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, Francesco Guidolin began his football career as a midfielder with Verona in 1975. He remained with the club for several years, with brief loan spells at other teams. In 1986, he retired as a player at Venezia, then in Serie C2.
Youth International Career
Guidolin represented Italy at the youth level from 1976 to 1977. He made his debut for the Italy U-21 team in September 1976 and earned a total of five caps.
Coaching Career
Early Years (1988-1998)In 1988, Guidolin embarked on his coaching career with Giorgione in Serie C2. He subsequently coached teams in Serie C2 and C1 before guiding Ravenna to Serie B in 1993. He then briefly managed top-flight club Atalanta.
Vicenza (1998-1999)
Guidolin joined Serie B club Vicenza in 1998. He led the team to victory in the Coppa Italia that year and reached the semifinals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup the following season.
Udinese (1999-2001)
In 1999, Guidolin took over as coach of Udinese. The team finished 7th in the league, but Guidolin was dismissed before the start of the next season.
Bologna (2001-2003)
Guidolin's next appointment was at Bologna in 2001. He guided the team to the final of the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2002, but was sacked in 2003 following an offensive remark about the city of Bologna.
Palermo (2004-2006)
In 2004, Guidolin replaced Silvio Baldini as coach of Palermo. Under his leadership, the team returned to Serie A after 35 years and qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2005.
Genoa (2005-2006)
Guidolin then joined Genoa, which had earned promotion to Serie A. However, the club was relegated to Serie C1 due to match-fixing allegations, and Guidolin terminated his contract.
Monaco (2005-2006)
In 2005, Guidolin was appointed coach of Monaco. He remained with the club for one season, during which Monaco finished in mid-table.
Return to Palermo (2006-2008)
Upon returning from France, Guidolin had three stints as manager of Palermo over two years.
Parma (2008-2010)
In 2008, Guidolin signed with Parma and led them to promotion to Serie A that season.
Udinese (2010-Present)
In 2010, Guidolin was appointed coach of Udinese. Under his guidance, the team finished fourth in Serie A in 2011 and qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. Guidolin has remained with Udinese to date.
