Early Life and FamilyFranciszek Kęsy was born in Berlin to Stanisław and Anna Piątek. He hailed from a devout Roman Catholic family. In 1921, his family relocated to Poland, where he would spend the formative years of his life.
Education and Religious Vocation
Franciszek attended the Salesian Oratory in Poznań, where he developed his spiritual maturity and a deep love for God. He actively participated in youth organizations and became a member of the "Western Lands Volunteer Squad."
Persecution and Martyrdom
The outbreak of World War II brought darkness and chaos upon Poland. On September 23, 1940, the Gestapo arrested Franciszek. After a brief internment in the Neukölln prison in Berlin, he was transferred to the Zwickau prison in May 1941.
On August 1, 1942, Franciszek was executed in the city of Dresden. He endured unspeakable torture and humiliation throughout his imprisonment, but his faith remained unwavering.
Beatification and Legacy
On June 13, 1999, Franciszek Kęsy was beatified by Pope John Paul II alongside 108 other Polish martyrs of the Second World War. His feast day is celebrated on June 12.
Franciszek's life and martyrdom stand as a testament to the power of faith and the indomitable spirit that can triumph over adversity. He is revered as a symbol of hope and inspiration for Catholics worldwide.
