The Miraculous Life of Frane Selak

Franjo "Frane" Selak, a Croatian music teacher, gained notoriety as the "world's luckiest man" after reportedly surviving seven near-fatal accidents and winning the lottery.

Early Life and Career

Born in 1929, Selak pursued a career in music, becoming a conductor and leading various school choirs. Despite being married five times, his personal life took a backseat to his extraordinary encounters with death.

The Seven Near-Death Experiences

Selak's remarkable story begins with a train derailment in 1962, where he escaped with hypothermia and a fractured arm. In 1963, he allegedly survived a plane crash when the door flew open mid-flight, forcing him to parachute into a haystack. However, inconsistencies in this account cast doubt on its accuracy.

In 1966, Selak escaped a bus crash by diving into a river. In 1970, his car burst into flames, but he managed to jump out moments before it exploded. In 1973, he nearly lost his hair when a fuel pump malfunction caused a fire in his car. In 1995, an oncoming bus clipped him, leaving him with minor injuries.

The most dramatic incident occurred in 1996 when Selak crashed his car into a road barrier and it was left dangling over a precipice. He leapt from the vehicle and grabbed onto a tree, witnessing his own car explode 90 meters below.

Lottery Winnings and Legacy

In June 2002, Selak's luck struck again when he won a lottery equivalent to 600,000 pounds. He generously used the money to help his family and friends. While Selak's stories have drawn skepticism, their enduring legacy has made him a symbol of resilience and the belief that miracles can happen.
