The Doping Scandal

On Saturday, May 5, de Boer received devastating news. After a match between Barcelona and Espanyol, it was revealed that he had tested positive for nandrolone, a banned substance. Consequently, de Boer was suspended from football for an entire year. Initially, he thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be a nightmare. However, de Boer firmly denied using any prohibited substances, and his integrity was supported by his coach, Louis van Gaal, who stated, "Frank is not the type of player who would use banned drugs." Even the president of Barcelona, Gaspart, tried to help de Boer. After a month and a half, UEFA reduced his suspension to only ten weeks. This decision was a relief for de Boer, as he believed a year-long ban could have seriously affected his career.
